Notes on the Calendar

The Hebrew days always begin at sundown.

Shavuot (Pentecost) is reckoned fifty days from the day of the First Fruits Offering so it always falls on the Ninth day of the third Hebrew month.

The calendar is based on writings from the Book of Enoch. Inspired revelation was given to Enoch by the angel Uriel regarding phases of the sun and moon, from which we can work out the scriptural basis of the calendar. Enoch chapter 78 is the chapter from which we get most of the information about the lunar Hebraic Calendar.

Regarding the equinox, I can find no scriptural reference to it, but we accept that in forming a calendar we must have a point of reference. The Northern Spring equinox is the obvious observable point of reference about which there is no doubt. The New Year, Aviv, cannot begin before the equinox.  If the twelfth month has already ended before the equinox then a thirteenth month, Adar Bet is added.

The biblical Hebrew calendar year has 354 days, 6 months of 30 days and 6 months of 29 days alternately which fits in perfectly with the moon’s monthly cycle of 29 ½ days.

After the northern spring equinox at the next dark moon (i.e. the conjunction of the sun and moon with the earth) begins the new month of Rosh Qodesh (called Aviv/Abib) of the next Hebrew year.

From the first day of the first month Aviv, to the first day of the seventh month Ethanim, is always 177 days (Enoch 78:3, 4). From the first day of the seventh month to the first day of the next Aviv is 177 days, except in the year when the thirteenth month is added, then it is 206 days. With this information it is an easy matter to calculate all of the important Feast days of Yahusha’s seventy week long Ministry (not three and a half years) in Israel and thirty and a half years of life on this earth.

In Old Testament times the First Fruits Offering was waved by the priest on the day after the Sabbath within the Feast of Unleavened Bread, but since the resurrection of Yahusha, He being the First Fruits offering Himself, the day of the First Fruits Offering is now three nights and three days after His death at Passover. Yahusha Himself when He rose from the dead was the First Fruits of the redeemed from the earth, as He by His resurrection overcame the law of sin and death.
